Copernicus Marine Arctic MFC: 3km model - Validation of significant wave height
Validation based on data from Sentinel 3a
The validation of ARC-MFC WAV 3km model results is performed using Sentinel-3a altimeter observations. Altimetry data and model results are freely available for registered CMEMS users of marine.copernicus.eu. The production of altimeter data is operated by CLS.

The collocation of satellite footprints with model grid cells is based on a nearest neighbour approach with a spatial constraint of 3km and a temporal constraint of plus/minus 30 minutes.
The Arctic MFC wave model is run twice daily with a forecast period of 5 and 10 days. For the validation figures results are displayed for forecast lead times of 12, 36 and 60 hours. Model results are available as Copernicus Marine product ARCTIC_ANALYSIS_FORECAST_WAV_002_014. An archive of historical forecasts are available from a thredds server. The Arctic MFC wave model was implemented and is maintained by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
